Like a king: Palace House of the Counts of Garcinarro

As soon as you cross the doors of the Casa Palacio de los Condes de Garcinarro you feel like you have entered another time. This 18th century building currently houses a hotel where you can relax from the hustle and bustle of the cities and escape the rush. From the old hallway, the current reception, you feel the peace that its large stone walls offer. The shield that presides over it is that of the Counts of Garcinarro, a county granted in 1716 by Archduke Charles of Austria. José Antonio de Parada y Vidaurre, Flórez y Mendoza was born in Huete in 1685. He was the 2nd Count of Garcinarro and founded this palace house. On their shield we see the weapons of their surnames flanked by winged serpents.

It was Jose Antonio de Parada who took the paintings of the famous painter Paolo de Matheis, disciple of Luca Giordano, to his palace in Huete. Today you can see works by this artist in the Prado Museum. The great power held by the House of the Parada can be seen in Huete in the Convent of Jesus and Mary, and in the Monastery of La Merced. They say that King Philip III stayed in this palace on one of his trips.

Upon entering the distinguished building, we are greeted by its picturesque hallway that allows us to glimpse its old stables, currently converted into a dining room, and its old winery, where the wines of this land can now be enjoyed. The Castilian patio is the center of the accommodation, around which 14 rooms are arranged. Some of them preserve the old courtrooms of the time, where ladies could sit by the window to sew, read or wait for a gentleman to court them, always in the presence of their mother, of course.

It is a place full of charm where it is worth arriving without rushing, without a clock, without a cell phone... and plopping down on one of the armchairs on the main floor, where in the living room on winter afternoons the fireplace is lit to Enjoy all your guests.
