Segóbriga Archaeological Park. One of the most important vestiges of the Roman world. The city was the center of economic control and commercialization of the lapis specularis mines, known as the Crystal of Hispania, which allowed its economic boom and its monumentalization from the time of Augustus. One of the best examples of a Roman city in the interior of the peninsula and which was the center of lapis specularis mining, the true economic engine of the area in Roman times, something that is clearly reflected in the urban planning of the city itself. There are only 7 Roman cities in Spain that have a theatre, an amphitheater and a circus, and one of them is Segóbriga. We will be able to enjoy an ancient Roman theater and step on the sand of an authentic amphitheatre, as well as visit and see the route of some Roman baths.
Lapis Specularis mines. The crystal of Hispania, in the district of Saceda del Río. In small groups of about ten people, our guide will contextualize the value that this material gave to this region in other times. An authentic Roman mine, where the form and technique of exploitation of these centers, the lighting, the work process, etc. can be observed in a very visual way. These mines are located in an incomparable natural space that makes this visit the perfect tandem between natural and historical excursion.
Lunch in the ancient Roman city of Opta, present-day Huete.
The Roman Villa of Noheda. This luxurious Roman Villa from the 4th century AD, known as the Spanish Pompeii, houses the largest mosaic in the world. In the villa's triclinium, measuring 231m2, we find this unique mosaic both for its dimensions, for its state of conservation, and for its rich figurative scenes. Undoubtedly, one of the great wonders of the Roman world. Not surprisingly, Katherine Dunbabin, emeritus professor at Oxford University and one of the great experts in mosaic art, declared that it was "the most impressive mosaic she had seen in the entire Roman Empire."
