Tour description

Cuenca from its Rivers is a 4-kilometer circular hiking proposal. This activity takes us around the city of Cuenca through a guided and interpreted hiking route wich follow the sickles of its rivers. This hiking route is both, educational and fun, and is suitable for everyone, including families and children, due to its mix of items: nature, history and ethnography.

This tour, far away from the tourist crowds, will show us a different point of view of the city of Cuenca, it is out of the conventional itineraries and bring us where the nature embraces this city.

We start the route Trinidad Park, where Huecar and Jucar meet together, from here we will walk up the Huecar River. This river bring us by Valencia Gate and, surrounding the city walls and the auditorium, we begin to hike up its sickle. At the beginning of our climb, we have a marvelous view of San Pablo Bridge and the Hanging Houses above our heads. Hiking up the Huecar sickle we'll find the ruins of Federico Muelas house and discover who this poet was and why is so important for Cuenca.

From there we will go on up finding increasingly interesting vegetation and leaving behind magnificent views and the best picture sites of both, San Paul convent, Hanging Houses and San Martín Skyscrapers, until we reach the Castle neighborhood.

From the ruins of the Castle, we go down to the Júcar sickle under the Eyes of La Mora that observe us from the other side of the canyon. Who was the mysterious Zaida? What ties linked her to Cuenca? Along the vertiginous slope of Las Angustias we go down to the Júcar sickle, leaving aside the sanctuary, the great Júcar river awaits us down. We will follow this river, here the vegetation is very different. We can feel that the sickle of Jucar and the Huecar one have very different environments, even being so close each other. We go on along the Júcar searching the plant and animal life that its riverside hides and discovering the different leisure chances it offers to the residents and visitors of Cuenca. Finally the Júcar will meet again with its faithful partner, the Huecar, marking so the end of our route
